San Miguel de Allende is frequently recognized as one of the most enchanting little cities in the world. (See Travel & Leisure Magazine) With its Spanish colonial heritage, accent on the arts and a thriving expat scene, it is at the top of the list when it comes to Mexico travel. Consider this a tour that demands early commitments. Share this memorable New Year fiesta. Contact your friends today.

This tour is similar to our Colonial Mexico tour with minor itinerary changes to accommodate the colorful New Year celebrations in San Miguel de Allende, a MotoDiscovery tradition. As well, conditions permitting, a visit to the world renown Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary, adds to an already exciting riding event.

MotoDiscovery is the most experienced and longest running operator of motorcycle tours in Mexico, since 1981. Make your reservation early as groups are small to afford participants the best service on this romantic South of the Border tour.

  • Mexico. If there is road-worthy riding in this country, we’ve probably done it. Our old brand name, Pancho Villa Moto-Tours says it all; when it comes to motorcycle touring in Mexico, no one does it better than MotoDiscovery.
  • San Miguel de Allende captures the essence of Mexico’s Spanish colonial heritage. Once a Bohemian art colony, it maintains that flavor with strict period architectural preservation inviting one to meander the narrow cobblestone streets in search of fine dining, shopping and art galleries. The music scene here is exceptional, from jazz to flamenco. This is a perfect destination for a New Years celebration to remember.
  • The Sierra Gorda. From the arid desert floor, we twist our way into the mountains, with breathtaking views and sweeping curves. The route is dotted with a number of villages dating back to the 18th century, dominated by plazas graced with churches constructed by Spanish priest Junipero Serra, whose controversial exploits went as far as California where today you will find eight of Serra’s missions. The ride is exceptional. History abounds.
  • Along the road of the Sierra Gorda, near the tropical mountain town of Xilitla, coffee plantations climb the sides of hills. Hidden away in a nearby jungle you will discover Las Pozas. Nine acres of meandering artistic concrete features demonstrates the genius of an eccentric British nobleman.
  • The Team. With over four decades riding the roads of the world, MotoDiscovery has rightfully earned a reputation as being the best when it comes to your staff team.  In regions such as Mexico we rely heavily on our multilingual guides to provide you genuine services, share the culture and history and above all provide a safe and memorable touring experience. It is more than a job. It is a duty and one joyfully embraced. That is how we do it at MotoDiscovery.

This is a MotoDiscovery Road Tour Light Adventure. It’s paved all the way and suitable for any experienced motorcycle touring enthusiast.

MotoDiscovery travels during what we consider to be optimum riding seasons. The route will include high altiplano desert, tropics and forests, presenting a multitude of climate zones.  Temperatures are known to vary widely this time of year. Be prepared for anything. Weather updates with temperature ranges are provided in a MotoDiscovery e-mail Communique right before the tour.

Know that we consider this a priority. Over 30 million travelers come to Mexico on average each year. While we consider the safety question to be overblown, we still take it seriously and recognize that there are territorial criminal elements engaged in drug related activity in many parts of Mexico. These elements rarely bother tourists as this only brings unnecessary attention to them. It is a strange coexistence. We encourage you to contact us if you have any questions or concerns knowing that at any time, anywhere, we feel your security is compromised , we will be honest and respond accordingly.

This tour is ideally suited for bringing your personal motorcycle. MotoDiscovery will inform you of reasonable Mexico insurance options and the required documents for your temporary importation. Rentals may also be available. Contact MotoDiscovery for specifics.

This tour is suitable for any road worthy touring, sport touring or dual-purpose adventure motorcycle. Trikes and sidecars are also acceptable.

If the logistics are not favorable for you to ride to the border for the tour rendezvous, many elect to ship their motorcycle. In this case we recommend San Antonio, Texas where we have a cooperative BMW dealership to receive it. We will assist with additional logistics and provide consultation. Federal Motorcycle Transport is but one operation that specializes in such transport services. Contact us for details.

Yes! You will want to share this holiday event with your riding partner. Roads are paved all the way. The services, quality of accommodations and uniqueness of this ride to San Miguel Allende  make this a most memorable way to bring in the New Year.

This tour is limited to 10 motorcycles plus staff.

No worries. We have native speakers on all of our tours in Mexico. Many people in Mexico speak English. We encourage you to learn a few words and we will gladly provide some lessons along the way if you wish!

Expect road conditions to be of varying quality of paved surfaces. From open multilane toll highways to narrow country roads and mountainous curves.

A passport is required when entering the country. For motorcycle temporary importation, an ORIGINAL registration, drivers license and a credit card are also needed. We will go into detail in pre-tour Communiques.

MotoDiscovery strives to provide the best possible accommodations for our riding guests. This tour is no exception.  Overall we find lodging on this tour to be very good. In our attempt to seek unique lodging in the centro, the group may be separated in San Miguel, staying in small boutique hotels.

As is the usual MotoDiscovery policy we encourage ordering from an open menu and enjoy sharing with you a great dining experience. You won’t be disappointed. Those with special dietary requirements can count on our cooperation and satisfaction.

The tour will be accompanied by a support vehicle that will gladly take any of your excess luggage and gear, on a space available basis. We may also have room in that vehicle for at least one non riding participant. Contact MotoDiscovery for details.

The Colonial Mexico tour is a great model for us to build you a private and customized touring experience, just for you and your friends. Contact MotoDiscovery for consultation.

Tour preparation is important. You will receive, electronically, a comprehensive tour booklet that will address all your questions. You are encouraged to call or send us an email at any time if you have additional questions. We welcome your inquiries.
