PATAGONIA

5 reasons you should add this MotoDiscovery feature destination to your bucket list

The South American continent offers a wealth of adventure riding treasures. We’ve been riding there since 1995, and by far the most popular region is the southern reaches of Chile and Argentina known as Patagonia.

Technically it is bound by the Atlantic Ocean to the East the Pacific to the West, sandwiching the Andean mountain range, a stunning system of fjords with temperate rainforests, glacial lakes, and barren windswept grasslands. It is this exact dynamic that offers you a thrilling motorcycle riding experience, unlike any other on the planet.

Here are 5 good reasons why you should add this Patagonia motorcycle tour to your bucket list:

FAQs

How difficult is this ride?

This is a MotoDiscovery Road Tour Light Adventure. It’s paved all the way and suitable for any experienced motorcycle touring enthusiast.

How is the weather?

MotoDiscovery travels during what we consider to be optimum riding seasons. The route will include high altiplano desert, tropics and forests, presenting a multitude of climate zones.  Temperatures are known to vary widely this time of year. Be prepared for anything. Weather updates with temperature ranges are provided in a MotoDiscovery e-mail Communique right before the tour.

Is it safe?

Know that we consider this a priority. Over 30 million travelers come to Mexico on average each year. While we consider the safety question to be overblown, we still take it seriously and recognize that there are territorial criminal elements engaged in drug related activity in many parts of Mexico. These elements rarely bother tourists as this only brings unnecessary attention to them. It is a strange coexistence. We encourage you to contact us if you have any questions or concerns knowing that at any time, anywhere, we feel your security is compromised , we will be honest and respond accordingly.

What about bringing my own motorcycle?

This tour is ideally suited for bringing your personal motorcycle. MotoDiscovery will inform you of reasonable Mexico insurance options and the required documents for your temporary importation. Rentals may also be available. Contact MotoDiscovery for specifics.

What is a good motorcycle for this tour?

This tour is suitable for any road worthy touring, sport touring or dual-purpose adventure motorcycle. Trikes and sidecars are also acceptable.

Can I ship my motorcycle to you?

If the logistics are not favorable for you to ride to the border for the tour rendezvous, many elect to ship their motorcycle. In this case we recommend San Antonio, Texas where we have a cooperative BMW dealership to receive it. We will assist with additional logistics and provide consultation. Federal Motorcycle Transport is but one operation that specializes in such transport services. Contact us for details.

Is this suitable for a passenger?

Yes! You will want to share this holiday event with your riding partner. Roads are paved all the way. The services, quality of accommodations and uniqueness of this ride to San Miguel Allende  make this a most memorable way to bring in the New Year.

How big are the groups?

This tour is limited to 10 motorcycles plus staff.

I don’t speak Spanish.

No worries. We have native speakers on all of our tours in Mexico. Many people in Mexico speak English. We encourage you to learn a few words and we will gladly provide some lessons along the way if you wish!

How are the roads?

Expect road conditions to be of varying quality of paved surfaces. From open multilane toll highways to narrow country roads and mountainous curves.

What documents are required to enter Mexico?

A passport is required when entering the country. For motorcycle temporary importation, an ORIGINAL registration, drivers license and a credit card are also needed. We will go into detail in pre-tour Communiques.

How are the accommodations?

MotoDiscovery strives to provide the best possible accommodations for our riding guests. This tour is no exception.  Overall we find lodging on this tour to be very good. In our attempt to seek unique lodging in the centro, the group may be separated in San Miguel, staying in small boutique hotels.

What about the food?

As is the usual MotoDiscovery policy we encourage ordering from an open menu and enjoy sharing with you a great dining experience. You won’t be disappointed. Those with special dietary requirements can count on our cooperation and satisfaction.

Will you carry our luggage?

The tour will be accompanied by a support vehicle that will gladly take any of your excess luggage and gear, on a space available basis. We may also have room in that vehicle for at least one non riding participant. Contact MotoDiscovery for details.

Can MotoDiscovery design a private tour just for me and my friends?

The Colonial Mexico tour is a great model for us to build you a private and customized touring experience, just for you and your friends. Contact MotoDiscovery for consultation.

Will I get more information?

Tour preparation is important. You will receive, electronically, a comprehensive tour booklet that will address all your questions. You are encouraged to call or send us an email at any time if you have additional questions. We welcome your inquiries.
