PATAGONIA

5 reasons you should add this MotoDiscovery feature destination to your bucket list

The South American continent offers a wealth of adventure riding treasures. We’ve been riding there since 1995, and by far the most popular region is the southern reaches of Chile and Argentina known as Patagonia.

Technically it is bound by the Atlantic Ocean to the East the Pacific to the West, sandwiching the Andean mountain range, a stunning system of fjords with temperate rainforests, glacial lakes, and barren windswept grasslands. It is this exact dynamic that offers you a thrilling motorcycle riding experience, unlike any other on the planet.

Here are 5 good reasons why you should add this Patagonia motorcycle tour to your bucket list:

Bhutan Thunder Dragon Motorcycle Tour

The hidden magical Buddhist Kingdom of the Eastern Himalayas

This tour is for the adventurous traveler and can be acceptable for an equally spirited riding passenger. Roads are largely paved however expect sections to be unpaved in varying conditions of disrepair. For this reason we classify the Thunder Dragon Tour as ADVENTURE + The population is extremely welcoming, however visitors and influence from the outside world is limited and controlled in an effort to preserve their peaceful and unmolested Bhuddist lifestyle. You will still find Bhutan one of the most fascinating little countries in the world. If you desire a destination void of tourist masses, authentic in character and rich with colorful history and culture, few places match the exotica of the Buddhist Kingdom of Bhutan. Join us!

FAQs

Is Bhutan Safe?

It would be hard to imagine anywhere safer in the world. This tiny kingdom zealously wishes to retain its deeply rooted Buddhist culture and traditions.  It is so important that they have developed a metric to determine what is called Gross National Happiness to measure the contentment of its population.

What are the roads like?

You will get a little of everything thrown at you. Rains tend to deteriorate surfaces and certain mountain passes seem to be eternally under some state of repair and maintenance. Traffic is not a big issue but you may encounter an elephant or two along with wandering pedestrians and automobile traffic.

What about the motorcycles?

We are thrilled with the Royal Enfield Himalaya 400 cc motorcycle. It is the ideal motorcycle for touring this part of the world.

Is this a good tour for couples??

Yes. We have had many over the years. The small bike may be a stretch for two large people. The support van easily accommodates any non-riding participants or family members who you may wish to have join you. It is an experience that you will definitely want to share. Contact us for further consultation.

Do I need a Bhutan visa?

Yes. We obtain that for you. This will not require you to send your passport anywhere. We will request a clean color scan of your passport along with other information to perform the application process. This makes it even more urgent for you to book your tour early.

Are there any health concerns?

No, not beyond our usual recommendations to get inoculations for hepatitis and to keep your tetanus current.

Is there a risk of altitude sickness?

You are riding in the shadows of the Himalayas and there are a few mountain passes that approach 10,000 feet however we do not spend the night at those higher altitudes. If you are sensitive to higher elevations, we will provide you with further consultation and urge you to speak with your physician.

When is the best time to go to Bhutan?

We typically run our tours in the spring and fall. Global warming is having an impact, shifting rain seasons so we are adjusting accordingly.

Are there direct flights from the USA to Bhutan?

No. Only two airlines service Bhutan; Druk Air and Bhutan Airlines. Your likely connection from the USA to Bhutan will be through Delhi, Bangkok, Singapore or Kathmandu.

Since I’m connecting through Delhi, India can you arrange a layover and excursion to Taj Mahal?

Yes! In fact, we encourage it. We’ll make it a seamless experience to include Agra Fortress, Taj Mahal and transportations. Contact us for details.

When should I book my tour?

Right away. Getting visas, securing your domestic air reservations and other preparations make it vital that you book no less than four months prior to the tour. Earlier is even better.

How big are the groups?

We cap our tours at 10 motorcycles. On this tour we have taken as few as five guests. Why not network with your friends and have them join you. We can, with advance planning, also arrange a custom private tour just for your group.

Are there any self-guided tours available for Bhutan?

As part of sustaining the kingdom’s unique lifestyle and character, independent self-guided tours are not available. You will benefit greatly from our staff team, and we consider this event a tremendous value.
